Story Basics

Set the foundation for your branching narrative experience.

Characters

Define the characters in your story. Add their name and role.

Tip: Start with 3-5 characters. Common roles: protagonist (learner), mentor (guide), ally (helper), antagonist (obstacle), neutral NPC.

Game Mechanics

Configure how players interact with your narrative.

Tip: Keep it simple at first (e.g., 3 lives, 15 min timer). You can always adjust later.

Locations

Define the scenes/locations in your narrative.

Tip: Keep under 8 locations for good flow. Each location becomes a backdrop for scenes.

Inventory Items

Define collectible items players can find and use.

Tip: Limit to 4-5 items. Each item should clearly unlock a path or trigger an outcome.

Plot Skeleton

Build your story spine first (main path), then add branches for alternate choices.

Planning Tip: Start with the core spine (the "correct" path), then add branches for wrong choices. Use "Requires Item" to gate paths behind inventory.

Endings

Review and refine your endings. Any endings created in the previous step will appear here.

Tip: Tie endings to conditions (e.g., "Success if player has Keycard"). Label as Success, Failure, or Neutral.
